Feb 1 6:25 AM [JoelComm] and being a yorkshire terrier owner, I am more
likely to visit the latter than the others as
it is targeted to my specific niche
Feb 1 6:25 AM [Etherfast] *test*
Feb 1 6:26 AM [JoelComm] you just have to analyze the possibilities and see
what is an area that is a good fit for
you
Feb 1 6:26 AM [JoelComm] my mother is big into adventure travel
Feb 1 6:26 AM [JoelComm] she does crazy stuff like camping at the base of Mt
Everest
Feb 1 6:26 AM [JoelComm] riding camels in the desert.. she's nuts...
Feb 1 6:26 AM [JoelComm] but I encouraged her to blog about it.
Feb 1 6:26 AM [JoelComm] so her site is very niched at
www.travelswithsheila.com
Feb 1 6:27 AM [JoelComm] she loves to blog about her passion and make a few
dollars/day with AdSense...
Feb 1 6:27 AM [JoelComm] and it continues to grow as she adds more content.
Feb 1 6:27 AM [JoelComm] an extremely niched site might not get as much
traffic as a broader site...
Feb 1 6:27 AM [JoelComm] but if you are doing what you love... its a good
deal
Feb 1 6:27 AM [JoelComm] and besides, she gets to write off all her travel
as business expense!
Feb 1 6:27 AM [jonathanleger] Awesome. Ok, next question:
Feb 1 6:28 AM [jonathanleger] Is there a good way to stop ads from showing
that have the same spelling but are not
related (i.e. Palm Tree ads showing for a Palm OS page)?
[JoelComm] ideally, Google's AdSense bot should be able to analyze the
entire page and determine correct ads to
show..
[JoelComm] but this does happen occasionally.
[JoelComm] only thing you can do is make sure you have enough references to
your main keywords and...
[JoelComm] block individual specific URLS in the AdSense admin tool
[JoelComm] other than that, Google hasn't developed more sophisticated tools
yet.. I Wish they would
[jonathanleger] Me, too.
[jonathanleger] Okay, next:
[JoelComm] it's coming.. they are smart.
[jonathanleger] Is it advisable to open AdSense clicks in a new window so
you don't lose your visitor after a single
click?
[JoelComm] no, in fact it is a violation of terms of service I believe
[JoelComm] its the price you pay for the click
[JoelComm] Google is picky that way.. ;-)
[jonathanleger] I thought so myself.
[jonathanleger] Okay, next:
[jonathanleger] Should I create pages that are a bit off topic but whose
keyword bids look really good?
[JoelComm] only if you plan on continually maintaining those sites... adding
content regularly
[JoelComm] I didn't marry a woman that I thought I might abandon if the
marriage didn't work like I wanted...
[JoelComm] by the same token..
[JoelComm] I don't like to build sites that I don't plan on investing in and
staying with
[JoelComm] I've made that mistake and it is a time-waster
[JoelComm] it is better to focus
[JoelComm] again, its like any good business.
[JoelComm] you have to be committed and focused on the long-term
[JoelComm] if people would grasp that concept and realize that they are in
this for the long haul, they would have
more to show for their efforts down the road
[jonathanleger] Good point.
[jonathanleger] Next question:
[JoelComm] fire when ready
[jonathanleger] You covered a little bit of this, but...
[jonathanleger] Do you earn your AdSense income more from a few large sites
or from many small ones? Which method do
you recommend most?
[JoelComm] I earn the majority of my AdSense income from 3 sites... and one
is significantly larger than the others
[JoelComm] I "dabble" with other sites cause I like to experiment... and I
can afford the time to do so
[JoelComm] it depends on the person
[JoelComm] i don't recommend building 100 sites if that is what you mean
[JoelComm] can't possibly keep up with that
[JoelComm] remember, if your site isn't updated regularly and consistently,
the search engine spiders won't visit
often
[Ted Gambrell] Is adsense arbitrage doable and/or a good idea
[JoelComm] so you want to focus on what you are able to accomplish.. and
with excellence
[Micle Mihai Cristian] If someone would ask you "What is your JOB?" - What
would be your answer ?!
[jonathanleger] Everyone be quiet please.
[jonathanleger] Great to hear that Joel.
[JoelComm] gotta answer that anyway.. I don't have a job. I do what I love.
Money comes as a result :-)
[jonathanleger] I'm sure your answer came as both a surprise and a relief to
everybody. A lot of people think it
takes hundreds of sites to do well. Glad to hear from you that it doesn't.
[JoelComm] but I won't answer any more off the cuff.. gotta come from Jon
else we have chaos
[jonathanleger] thx. Okay, next question:
[JoelComm] nope.. like I said.. I have several friends that make more than I
do with ONE site!
[JoelComm] gopher it
[jonathanleger] How old are your top AdSense earning sites?
[JoelComm] 7 years
[JoelComm] but I would have made money with AdSense on it year #1 if AdSense
had existed then
[JoelComm] realize that Google didn't launch the program until 2003.. so my
site was four years old
[JoelComm] and I messed up for 9 months with AdSense.. didn't figure out how
to do it properly until Spring 2004
[JoelComm] that's when I "cracked" the Adsense Code
[jonathanleger] Haha. Cool. Next:
[jonathanleger] What is your criteria for deciding if it's worth creating a
site or page on a certain topic?
[JoelComm] 1) Do I give a rip about the topic?
[JoelComm] If not, I probably won't be able to put my heart and soul into
it.. not just for a buck
[JoelComm] 2) can I give it the time and attention it deserves?
[JoelComm] If not, I prob need to focus on my existing projects
[JoelComm] other than that, things like keyword values don't matter to me
[JoelComm] In fact, my best paying AdSense sites has low paying keywords
[JoelComm] I make up for it with volume of traffic
[JoelComm] with the amount of traffic I get, I could probably make 5 times
what I am making now if I had high paying
keywords
[JoelComm] oh well.. I love the site and so do my visitors
[jonathanleger] Great. Next question:
[jonathanleger] Do you have any comments on the new AdSense rule that third
party advertisers cannot be made to look
like AdSense?
[JoelComm] that rule has been there all along!
[JoelComm] the good news is that Google has clarified some things that allow
publishers to take on new opportunities
[JoelComm] for example, we know that you can't run YPN on the same pages
with AdSense...
[JoelComm] though you CAN run them on different pages...
[JoelComm] but now they have told us that other contextual services, such as
Chitika, Kontera, Intellitxt, Amazon
Omakase and others like it CAN coexist on the same pages as AdSense!
[JoelComm] I added Kontera to my forums last week and instantly increased my
income $70/day without taking anything
away from my AdSense earnings!
[JoelComm] Kontera is cool
[JoelComm] and they have had a steep requirement for their program...
500,000 impressions/month
[JoelComm] however, if you follow this link, you can apply and tell them I
sent you... they are willing to work with
small publishers that I refer
[JoelComm] www.adsense-secrets.com/kontera.html
[James B] Sorry if this was asked before, but...what about this for
adsense...NEW! We've improved custom channels -
now, you have the option to enable any custom channel to be targeted by
advertisers. You can also update any existing
custom channels to allow advertiser targeting.
[jonathanleger] Great Joel, thanks!
[jonathanleger] Next question:
[jonathanleger] How can you protect from invalid clicks, or somebody trying
to sabotage your AdSense account?
[JoelComm] I know of two excellent programs Jon.. one is yours and one is
mine!
[JoelComm] AdSense Tracker... install it on your server and watch your
clicks
[JoelComm] I assume tracker watches all IPs, right?
[jonathanleger] Yup.
[JoelComm] My program is AdSenseDetective.com
[JoelComm] it is server -based.. paste the code on your pages and we track
all ads that are clicked as well as their
origination
[JoelComm] I recently heard from someone that had their account closed due
to "invalid clicks"
[JoelComm] they went to their AdSEnse Detective and found multiple clicks
from a foreign IP
[JoelComm] they sent the logs to Google and got their account reinstated.
[JoelComm] It's a no-brainer way to secure your account
[JoelComm] either product will do the trick
[JoelComm] other than that, never click your own ads
[JoelComm] and don't ask anyone to click your ads...
[JoelComm] not worth it
[jonathanleger] I'll add: RUN from those "click sharing" scam sites that
promise a big ring of people clicking your
ads for you.
[jonathanleger] Ok, next question:
[JoelComm] big time
[jonathanleger] What methods do you use to get people to your AdSense sites?
[JoelComm] threaten to steal their candy
[JoelComm] haha
[JoelComm] I don't look at it as "AdSense" sites, first of all
[JoelComm] they are my web sites... one way I monetize them is with AdSEnse.
[JoelComm] but we don't build sites JUST to make money with AdSense.
[JoelComm] that said...
[JoelComm] quality content is key... it will automatically make people want
to bookmark and visit again, right?
[JoelComm] proper search engine optimization on your pages is important so
the search engines can find and index you
[JoelComm] getting links from niche-related sites is a good thing for
pagerank and incoming traffic
[JoelComm] blogging and pinging (the RIGHT way) on a regular basis is a
great method
[JoelComm] creating press release via PRWeb.com or similar service...
especially if you can embed keyword links in
your release... great tool
[JoelComm] writing and syndicating articles at places like ezinearticles.com
[JoelComm] can be very beneficial
[JoelComm] viral campaigns where people are encouraged to tell-a-friend
[JoelComm] contests... sweepstakes... word of mouth
[JoelComm] those are just some of the ways... be creative!
[jonathanleger] Some great ideas there Joel. Next question:
[JoelComm] good thing I can type fast!
[jonathanleger] What's your opinion of creating subdomains for various
keywords / topics?
[JoelComm] varies site to site... hard to say which is best.
[JoelComm] On one hand...
[JoelComm] one domain with subdomains keep everything on one site.
[JoelComm] on the other, if they site falls out of favor with search
engines, there goes the neighborhood
[JoelComm] If you are doing it for keyword optimization, I wouldn't bother.
[JoelComm] but if you are doing it because it makes sense... like
mail.google.com and news.google.com, it is fine
[JoelComm] in my humble opinion
[jonathanleger] Cool.
[jonathanleger] Well, we're running out of time folks.
[JoelComm] yeah, sorry about that.. I've got a call with my coaching club
shortly
[jonathanleger] I wanted to make sure that everybody knew that you can get
Joel's wisdom compiled into a fat ebook
that answers so many more questions than we have time to cover here.
[jonathanleger] Joel, we're all just glad you made it!
[JoelComm] it's not just fat.. it's phat! ;-)
[jonathanleger] My last question to you is: have you lost your mind???
You're book is only $20 now. Why?
[JoelComm]
[JoelComm] it's true.. I'm nuts.
[JoelComm] My 199-page ebook has sold for $97 for two years now.
[JoelComm] it is in its third edition...
[JoelComm] and I decided I wanted to make this info as accessible as
possible to as many people as possible
[JoelComm] so they get one chance to snag the ebook and bonuses for
$19.95...
[JoelComm] that includes a 30-page case study report
[JoelComm] the AdSense Buddy PC stat tracking software
[JoelComm] a free month of AdSense Detective
[JoelComm] and a one-month trial to my coaching club..
[JoelComm] crazy, eh?
[jonathanleger] Very! Here's the link:
[jonathanleger] http://www.jonathanleger.com/recommends/joel.php
[jonathanleger] I have, of course, read your book--and highly recommend it.
[JoelComm] warning! you can only view the page ONE time
[JoelComm] if you leave the page or refresh it, you will see the $97 price
[JoelComm] don't believe me? try it... but I'd buy the book first..
[jonathanleger] Well thank you so very, very much for coming Joel. I know
you're a busy guy, and I take it as a
personal honor that you were willing to come today.
[JoelComm] it's my pleasure Jon.. I follow your work closely and appreciate
all you do to help people
[JoelComm] and I appreciate the questions as well..
[jonathanleger] Thanks. I appreciate it.
[JoelComm] sorry I didn't have time to answer all of them...
[JoelComm] sorry I didn't have time to answer all of them...
[JoelComm] but its actually snowing here in Oklahoma and roads are getting
bad...
[jonathanleger] No problem. You did us a world of good!
[JoelComm] so my wife wants me to head home
[TominDenver] Joel - heard you are moving to that NEW snowy state...dont'
worry, it doesn't snow that often!
[JoanBielby] Thank you both!
[JoelComm] yup, heading to Colorado NEXT WEEK!
[jonathanleger] Believe it or not, it snowed here in Dallas, too.
[JoelComm] ok.. now everyone can speak up to say good bye...
[jonathanleger] Colorado is beautiful.

the free gift. Thanks!
[jonathanleger] Then you can all talk away. =)
[jonathanleger] You might remember the report I sold for $7 a few weeks ago
about how I got 1,000 visitors to a web
site of mine in 24 hours using one video.
[Yvonne] Thanks a lot Joel and Jon
[Yvonne] n
[jonathanleger] I made $3,000 off of that one report in 7 days!
[jonathanleger] I decided to lay out a report on how I did that, as well as
include the scripts I used to do it.
[jonathanleger] That's what I'm giving you for free for coming today:
[Fred] awesome
[Joseph] http://www.jonathanleger.com/recommends/joel.php link not
working...says "no entries found"
[jonathanleger] The 34 page report that shows you how to create small,
inexpensive infoproducts and make a mint plus
[Yvonne] Thank you!
[Robert] Bless You!!
[BrittMalka] If they are not to Windoze it's great. I bought the book,
though.
[jonathanleger] The scripts I use to make that happen.
[jonathanleger] They are PHP scripts.
[Micle Mihai Cristian] More free gifts in future.
[Pat F] Yaay!
[jonathanleger] Here's the link to the ebook everybody (it has a link to the
scripts in it):
[Jan Tincher] I had trouble with the link so I typed it in and it took me to
the $97 page.
[Antrikkos] Thanks a lt Jonathan!!!
[adiqiucorp] i am addicted to free gifts :))
[jonathanleger] http://7dollarsecrets.com/9234/7DollarSecrets.pdf
[jonathanleger] And it's got a great way that you can earn money in minutes
by reselling the report--the cash goes
right into your own PayPal account.
[seltz] got it, thx you
[Gregg Hall] thanks Jon. Please message me when you get a chance so we can
continue our discussion
[Yvonne] got it - Thanks Jon
[jonathanleger] Read the report to find out how that works.
[ksenija] done
[adiqiucorp] thanks Jonathan. Who is going to be your next invite ?
[JerryGreene] Jon...quick question, do you still update EPCGold and Adsense
gold Keywords?
[jonathanleger] Jerry: they are updated, yes, but in need of a new update.
[Jan Tincher] That link isn't working for me, either. Sorry. Is there
another way to get to both ebooks? I seem to be having some trouble. Thanks.
[JerryGreene] Thanks
[jonathanleger] Jan: I'm not sure--they're both working for me.
[keith reed] Thanks
[Micle Mihai Cristian] Hmmm ... a lot of webmasters here ... I'm wondering
someone would like to talk about some link exchanges ?!
[Yvon Elysee] Thanks a lot Jon
[jonathanleger] Jan: Put in a ticket at AskJonLeger.com and I'll get it
worked out.
[TominDenver] might need to clear out your cache Jan (and cookies)
[Kristyne McDaniel] got it, thanks
[dave small] thanks Jon, appreciate your time and effort
[jonathanleger] Okay guys, I'm going to eat and then get the transcript put
together. It should be available within
the hour.
[jason] Jon, are you going to offer the picture upload scripts for sure?
[Kristyne McDaniel] thanks for the chat
[jonathanleger] be back later.
[steve] Anybody have Automotive sites for link exchange?
[dcanaan] Jonathan, I'm having probs with Instant Article writer. Didn't I
once see a video on it or a faq? Where can I find them?
[Fred] thanks for everything Jon
[dave small] take your time and enjoy your food
[ksenija] by Jon
[Pat F] Done! Thanks!
[bjorg] Thanks
[Antrikkos] where
is the script?
[jason] unique content, plrpro
[Joseph] www.urgentfury.com
[James B] yeah, where's the script?
[jason] web traffic, seo2020
[drwinn@griffingrid.com] Jon, if Joel believes in not having an abundance of
sites, why do you think he sells 50 new
niche sites a month?
[May Stewart]
[May Stewart] He sells them to make money
[joshua] daaa
[jason] unique content, orwellpro
[James B] A...found
them...here:http://www.7DollarSecrets.com/scripts/7DollarSecretsScripts.zip
[James B] http://www.7DollarSecrets.com/scripts/7DollarSecretsScripts.zip
[Joseph] This whole chat was a marketing ploy for Jonathan to make money as
an affiliate by selling Joel's e-book
[steve] -------- Antrikkos - www.custom-wheels-n-rims.com and
www.just-spinner-rims.com
[jason] unique content, jon's instant article wizard
[James B] yes, it sucked ....sorry
[James B] No new info really!
[bushibashir] jason can i get ur msn/yahoo id?
[Yvon Elysee] Guy, you have to listen and act. It's like that you succeed
[drwinn@griffingrid.com] I know he sells them to make money, but he seems to
be preaching one thing and recommending
another.
[James B] Right on DrWinn!
[carmine gallicchio] no people want to make alot of money
[miskris] the point is that if you are interested in one of the niches of
the adsense sites he sells YOU can develop
it .. it is the starting point
[carmine gallicchio] and either you have a lot of traffic or a lot of little
sites that make a $1
dealoftheday.com type site going
[James B] Not a starting POINT! No-one here will make money from what Jon or
Joell Says or SELLs you! Make a great
site that people want to go to and frequent...then you can monetize then
make money...PERIOD
[carmine gallicchio]
[seltz] yes that's just it, great content...
[carmine gallicchio] james your wrong
[James B] Carmine....you are wrong!
[James B] How much was your last adsense check Carmine?
[carmine gallicchio] jons adsense tracker is worth the money its under 100
bucks
[Kuruma Suzuki] it is the total traffic that really matters
[esh] james - you can't convience in that way
[carmine gallicchio] joels dective is a bit pricy but never tried it
[James B] I only have 1 site...1 adsense check baby
[Antrikkos] How many work for Joel?
[TJ Short] I cant get the adsense tracker to work jon even tried
[Kuruma Suzuki] if you have one great site, that really is great
[James B] Exactly Antrikkos
[James B] Thankyou K...you prabably do too!
[Niels] yes... one great site that people can use....
[James B] oopps...probably
[carmine gallicchio] i use jon's adsense tracker it lays down a wealth of
information, and if you use channels you
can find out what ads work and what ads to block... i found one click that
paid me $34 dollars for 1 click
[esh] i have about 40 sites and make about $150/day
[Kuruma Suzuki] but i am not denying 1000 site making $10 each though
[terrypinto] could someone please put up the links again. I hit a wrong
button and lost everything from this chat.
Thx!
[TJ Short] ah do you have to use channels
[James B] Right on esh!
[jonathanleger] Ok, I've wolfed down some chicken tacos and I'm off to work
on the transcript. I'll post the link
here.
[Kuruma Suzuki] like I said, the total traffic is the issue here
[jason] bshearer, sorry AFK, I don't have online chat...What's your email?
[carmine gallicchio] esh nice.... all with some traffic, but not top 20k in
the world right
[James B] I'm only saying is...it really only takes 1 site to get
rolling....from there/ Who knows!
[carmine gallicchio] right i run 1 site
[Niels] I have a website where people can sent sms from, but I only get ads
about sms or cheap phone... can I change
chat?
[bushibashir] bushi_bashir2010@yahoo.com
[Antrikkos] Hey guys I invite you to my website. Add quality contest and I
will give you $1000 a month
[esh] translation gold made that happen, my income raised from $70 to $150
in just 2 weeks.
[bushibashir] Jason i need some personal help
[Fernando Spindola] what was the link to the 1,000 visitors in 7 days
report?
[jason] james, I've made money thanks to jon's instant article wizard, so
you're wrong
[esh] though you can get kind of script for free these days
[James B] Sweet esh..I thought about the translation thing...uh...I think
there is a free script out there...gonna
have to look for it.
[Paul] anyone making adsense money from foreign language sites?
[jason] got it bushi
[carmine gallicchio] adsense tracker also deliveres you a list of keywords
people are finding you with
[James B] What am I wrong about bro?
[bushibashir] ok. thanks
[Niels] Paul - I have a danish site.... not making a lot...
[Kuruma Suzuki] i'm japanese and i run japanese sites
[Niels] but it covers my expenses for the site
[jason] you said no one will make money from what jon or joel sell, jon
sells instant article wizard, I made money
from it
[bushibashir] wud u plz write me a short note so that I can get ur email id
and tell u some problems
[James B] What...I have to buy someone's product to make it!....bullcrap!
[jason] yes, bushi I will
[Paul] cool Niels thx...are you using the auto translate or real content?
[Kuruma Suzuki] better to keep up with english sites, cost per click is a
lot higher
[bushibashir] ok. thanks
[esh] translation gold basically uses the google translation engine to make
it work, and i hope webmaster can easily
create a script like that.
[Niels] Paul - Im danish so Im using real content
[Antrikkos] yes and traffic from US pays more!
[Niels] Paul - but I will make in international website for SMS sending...
[carmine gallicchio] any way works 1 site with a lot of traffic or 100 small
sites, making $1 a day, but joel is
right it takes time to update a site...but
